Eurosonic Noorderslag on a Budget (Part 2)

Friday 15 January

If you have got your Friday’s off you are in luck, because on the third day of Eurosonic Noorderslag record shop Plato again hosts a variety of performances from 12:00 to roughly 18:00. If you can, try to squeeze in a visit at 15:20 to see De Staat. De Staat also performs on Eurosonic Air tonight, but the set in Plato will most likely be a lot more intimate than the one on the Grote Markt.

Mandrake’s Monster, Lola, 18:30 – 19:00

Fans of, for example, Black Sabbath and Foo Fighters would probably like Mandrake’s Monster, a hard rock band from Enschede. Their sound is loud, but still easy enough to listen to for people who are not usually a fan of hard rock or metal. However, people who are fans will be happy to spend the beginning of the night (17:30 to 20:00) in Lola, a small club in the Pelsterdwarsstraat to listen to three hard rock and metal bands.

Mr Memoir, &ZO Nightclub 20:10 – 20:40

If you are not interested in the bands playing in Lola, you might like Mr Memoir, a hip-hop artist from Groningen with reggae influences. The music is very fun and easy going and not like anything we have heard before on Eurosonic!

Animal Antics, Buckshot Café, 21:00 – 21:45

Animal Antics is a young indie band with influences from British bands such as the Kooks. One of the band members spent some time in Brighton, home of many indie musicians, and was inspired by the music scene there. Their uplifting tunes are able to make the whole room dance, which will energize you for the rest of the night.

John Coffey, Grote Markt, 22:15 – 23:00

Do you remember the legendary lead singer who caught a flying beer from the audience and drank it at Pinkpop? That was the lead singer of John Coffey! If you like hard rock, this band is perfect for you. Outside on the Grote Markt this band, some beer, and the right ambiance could be the recipe for a great party.

Stuart Mavis, Buckshot Café, 23:30 – 00:15

To keep up the diversity, we’re going back to Buckshot café for a band  which mixes a variety of genres such as folk, pop and hip hop. Supported by a trumpet, Stuart Mavis blasts out happy, poppy songs, which will make sure you end your night on a positive note.

Saturday 16 January

Eurosonic only has a free daytime programme today, but there are plenty of good artists to see on your last day!

NNO What’s on David Bowie’s Playlist, Grote Markt, 12:00 – 12:45

Noord Nederlands Orkest will perform music that inspired the late David Bowie during his musical career. This is a great way to remember the hero that passed away this week, while listening to some top notch contemporary classical music performed by NNO.

Lucas Hamming, Plato, 12:50 – 13:30

Visit some more young talent at Plato’s record shop from 12:00 to roughly 18:00 today. For example, Lucas Hamming, a young singer-songwriter who plays indie britpop and is on his way to become a big star if you look at his tourdata!

Bewilder, Grote Markt, 14:00 – 14:45

Bewilder is a Dutch indie band that can get inspiration from anywhere and everything. Their first album got created on the island Vlieland where they felt so inspired, that their album turned out full of surprises. Bewilder might be in the running to become the Netherlands’ next best thing, so make sure not to miss this performance!

Rondé, Grote Markt, 15:15 – 16:00

According to DJ Giel Beelen, Rondé is on its way to become one of the most successful Dutch bands. The songs have a dream-like quality to them due to the singer Rikki Borgelt. A little bit of pop and a little bit of psychedelia apparently is a great mix to make catchy songs.

Or go to

Douwe Bob, Coffee Company Ebbingestraat, 15:20 – 16:00

Douwe Bob is a Dutch singer-songwriter who writes happy, up-tempo songs. He had a big hit with his song  ‘Sweet Sunshine’ and has already established his right to be in the music field with this. He normally performs in bigger places, so to see him in a small coffee shop in Groningen is unique!

Jett Rebel, Grote Markt, 16:30 – 17:15

Jett Rebel seemed to suddenly just be there, scoring a hit out of nothing. We all found ourselves humming along to ‘Louise’, but this flamboyant singer has much more up his sleeve. End Eurosonic Noorderslag with a party by going to see Jett Rebel on the Grote Markt.

And thus our four days of Eurosonic Noorderslag on a budget are over. We hope you will have fun!
